Handicapped Population in India is 8% of General Population, out of this 2% are Mentally Handicapped, 4% are Physically Handicapped and 2% are Blind, Deaf & Dumb. The importance of physiotherapy and rehabilitation has gain momentum since last 20 years, and demands for trained personnel is increasing day by day. At present 10 times more trained personnel are required to meet the demand. Keeping this in view the MESCO has rightly taken a decision to start IPMR in 1994, to impart training in Physiotherapy as well as treatment to the Handicapped persons. The MESCO started short Term courses of 1 year, 6 Months and 3 Months durations. so far five hundred students are trained some of them were graduate, BUMS and even MBBS. Staff are Consists of : Director : General Surgeon Physiotherapists : BPT one. DPT one. Physiotherapy technician : one. As this is a Job oriented course there is great demand in Hospitals , Clinics, Gym Kanas, Health Clubs, Hotels and Gulf Countries. 30% of our trainees got the Job in India and Abroad and 10% are doing domiciliary practice. In April 2001 this course is replaced by 2 year inter Vocational course under Government of AP. This will further increase the value of Diploma course. As for as treatment of patients is concerned( 12000) patients are treated since 1994 with 80% functional recovery and rehabilitation. My message to the prospective student is those who want to stop further studies in their career due to some constraints may take up, these Job oriented courses. But to be a successful Physiotherapy Technician requires lots of patience, hard work for updating their knowledge and attending re oriented course. |
